Volkswagen, a German carmaker, is in talks with its main suppliers about possible claims for victims due to a shortage of semi conductors, a company spokesman said on Sunday.
Automakers around the world are shutting down assembly lines due to problems with semiconductor supplies, which in some cases have been exacerbated by the former Trump administration’s move against China’s chip factory.
The shortage has affected Volkswagen, Ford Motor Co., Subaru Corp., Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and other carmakers.
A spokesman for Volkswagen said: “For Volkswagen, the primary priority is to reduce the impact of the semiconductor barrier on production,” the company said in a statement.
The spokesman, however, added that the exchange would also include scrutiny of damages claims along with the suppliers of the exchange.
