Govt realizes Taka 52 lakh dodged VAT from Alesha Mart

The VAT Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has unearthed a VAT evasion of Taka 52 lakh by online shopping firm Alesha Mart by conducting a drive at its Banani office in the capital.

The dodged VAT amount has already been realized.

Following an allegation, a team of Vat Intelligence, led by its Assistant Director Munawar Mursalin, conducted a drive at the office of the e-commerce firm on June 8 and thus seized various accounts related documents of the firm.

After scrutinizing the documents, the VAT evasion was unearthed while the concerned authority later realized the VAT amount.

The VAT Intelligence officials said Although Alesha Mart took orders online for selling various products among the consumers with the help of different courier services, but the firm did not deposit the VAT imposed on their received commissions.

The officials said the dodged VAT amount which was later paid by Alesha mart was Taka 52,29,160 including Taka 32,43,724 as VAT and Taka 19,85,436 as VAT at source.

After accepting the allegation of VAT evasion at the hearing held at the office of VAT Intelligence, Alesha Mart deposited the amount to the state coffer voluntarily.
