UCB Stock Brokerage Ltd has launched Bangladesh’s first ever “Digital Booth” outside the country in Dubai on Friday last, to serve non-resident Bangladeshi (NRB) investors as well as other foreign investors, who intend to invest in the Bangladesh capital market.
Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam inaugurated the booth as the chief guest. United Commercial Bank Limited Chairman Anisuzzaman Chowdhury attended as the event as the special guest.
The digital booth launched following a four-day roadshow organized by BSEC titled “The Rise of Bengal Tiger: Potentials of Bangladesh Capital Markets” in Dubai from February 9 to reach out toNRB investors and attract foreign investment in Bangladesh.
The digital booth will provide one stop service to investors for account opening, fund transfer to Bangladesh for investing in the capital market, taking orders for stock/bond trading and arranging repatriation of funds from Bangladesh.
Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam explained the importance of capital market for the next phase of growth and development in Bangladesh, attracting NRBs towards the capital market. It will not only aid Bangladesh in its growth trajectory but will also open a reliable and lucrative investment window for the NRBs.
Dr Nahid Hossain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, UCB Director Professor Dr. Md. Jonaid Shafiq, Daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, Island Securities Managing Director Mohammed Mohiuddin, Al Haramain Group Chairman and NRB Association President Mohammed Mahtabur Rahman and UCB Stock Brokerage Limited CEO Mohammad Rahmat Pashaalso spoke on the occasion.
Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam said the opening of the digital booth was a part of a series of new initiatives taken by the Commission to improve the capital market. He also expressed his willingness to provide utmost regulatory support to develop investment opportunities for NRBs whose hard work and dedication have helped Bangladesh achieve this height. He thanked and expressed his gratitude towards the NRBs for their immense contribution towards the development of Bangladesh.
Anisuzzaman Chowdhury expressed his immense joy on the opening of the first ever digital booth by a Bangladeshi brokerage firm outside Bangladesh during the Mujib year and the Golden Jubilee of our Independence. He termed it as another feather on the cap of the Bengal Tiger and another step in fulfilling the dream of his late father, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury, the founder of United Commercial Bank Limited who dreamt of making the bank into a “Progressive Global Bank”.
