Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stocks on Sunday closed of the week with downward trend due to price fall mainly in large-cap securities.

The falling major sector was insurance. A total of 145 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 37.37 points down at 5,447.64. The blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 10.71 points down at 2,099.99 but the Shariah DSES closed the day with 2.29 points up at 1,238.62.

The daily trade fell to 19.34 crore shares from Thursday’s 19.84 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 8016.606 million from Taka 10554.768 million of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 353 securities, prices of 57 securities closed higher against 195 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were TAUFIKA, Beximco, Beximco Pharma, Berger PBL and Unilever CL while the major losing companies were Primer Insurance, Federal Insurance, Peoples Insurance, City General Insurance and United Insurance.

Beximco topped the turnover list followed by BATBC, Beximco Pharma, Robi and Lanka Bangla Finance.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 97.50 points down at 15,786.47.

At CSE, 213 issues were traded. Of those, 42 closed higher and 127 closed lower when 1.29 crore shares worth Taka 41.55 crore changed hands.
