Stocks maintain gaining streak

Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), today witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large- cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 101.03 points or 1.72 per cent to settle at 5,985.82. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 19.49 points to finish at 2,189.74 and 14.41 points closing at 1,285.01.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 23,688.85 million on the country’s premier bourse which was Taka 20,088.25 million.

Gainers took a modest lead over the losers, as out of 364 issues traded, 163 closed green, 143 in the red and 58 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco topped the turnover chart, followed by Prime Bank, IFIC, Lanka Bangla Finance and Northern Insurance.

Northern Insurance was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.91 per cent while SHYAMPSUG was the worst loser, losing 7 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -advancing 277.22 points to settle at 17,347.41 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX gaining 168.34 points to close at 10,454.53.

Of the issues traded, 140 advanced, 125 declined and 32 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 5.18 crore shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 104.38 crore.
