Since the first sale in early 2018, the Apple Homepod smart speaker is now being discontinued, it has been confirmed – instead Apple has shifted all attention to the smaller (and cheaper) HomePod Mini.
After the space gray homepod was spotted out of stock in the United States, Apple confirmed to TechCrunch that the model was being discontinued. Once the stock is exhausted, it will be for the original Siri-controlled speakers.
“HomePod Mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just $99. We are focusing our efforts on HomePod Mini,” Apple said in a statement to TechCrunch.
Apple has also confirmed that it will continue to provide software updates, services and support for the original HomePod, so if you buy it, it’s not going to turn into a very nicely designed paperweight anytime soon.
