Rupganj factory fire: Hashem Foods owner’s 2 sons granted bail

A court in Narayanganj granted bail to two sons of Abul Hashem, owner of Hashem Food and Beverage, a unit of Sajeeb Group, in a murder case filed over the fire at Rupganj factory that had left 52 people dead.

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun passed the order on Wednesday (July 14) after eight accused of the case were produced at the court on completion of their four-day remand.

The court granted bail to Tawsif Ibrahim and Tanjim Ibrahim and ordered police to send the rest six accused to jail.

The rest six accused are Chairman of Sajeeb Group Md Abul Hashem, his sons Hasib Bin Hashem alias Sajeeb and Tarek Ibrahim, Shahan Shan Azad, Mamunur Rashid and Salauddin.

Earlier, the eight accused were arrested over the fire at the factory, where chemicals and inflammable materials were stored.

52 people trapped inside the factory building were killed and more than 50 others were injured in a devastating fire in Rupganj on July 8.
