The government is likely to export 11,200 metric tonnes of potato from Bogura this season.

Agriculture officers informed agents of the exporters would buy quality potato worth Tk 22,000 crore from different hats and bazars of the district.

Shahaduzzaman, deputy director of district’s Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), said farmers are happy with bumper potato production.

This season, farmers harvested 13 lakh mts of potato from 55,455 hectares.

The quantum of potato procurement from the district is increasing day by day because of high quality of the essential vegetable.

The DAE sources said five local agencies purchase potato from the district for exporting to various countries including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
