A new report released out of Korea claims that Samsung will purchase one million OLED panels from LG Display in 2021 and four million in 2022. LG Display produces about eight million panels a year alone, a significant number.
The original report was obtained from MTN and was quoted by several other Korean and American news agencies. If this is true, Samsung will buy OLED displays from LG for the first time, and Samsung could return to the OELD TV market after leaving almost a decade ago.
While another Samsung LED TV will certainly make some waves in the 4K TV world, Samsung has two other technologies – Micro LED and QD-OLED – that have promised in the past. Samsung had hoped that the first unit would not hit the brightness level of the units, then perhaps Samsung needed all those OELD panels to improve its QD-OELD technology.
