Bangladeshis returning from India with NOC

Out of over 300 Bangladeshis stuck at India’s Petrapole land port, 70 returned home through the Benapole land port checkpost on Tuesday (April 27).

They returned home with No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata.

The Bangladesh government has closed the border with India for 14 days from April 27 due to a huge surge in Covid-19 cases in the neighbouring country.

Many of the Bangladeshis stuck on the other side are patients or students.

Benapole Immigration Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib said that they received the letter to keep borders with India closed for the next 14 days. But according to the letter, if anyone has special permission from the high commissioner, there will be no bar to travel, the OC added.

Without NOC, Bangladeshi nationals travelling in India will not be able to return home even for emergency reasons.

For NOC, the following documents will be necessary: a) An application describing necessity of returning to Bangladesh, b) contact address in India and telephone number, c) copy of passport, d) copy of visa page.

For any queries, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata can be contacted.
