A Dhaka court has granted bail to the Daily Prothom Alo Senior Reporter Rozina Islam in a case filed under Official Secrets Act.
The virtual court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah granted the bail on Tk 5,000 bail bond on Sunday (May 23).
The court also asked Rozina Islam to submit her passport to it.
Advocate Ehsanul Haque Somaji and several other lawyers moved for Rozina Islam in the court.
Mentionable, Rozina entered the health ministry office of the Secretariat around 3:30 pm on Monday (May 17) for professional duties. She was confined in the room of health secretary’s PS Saiful Islam for about five hours for allegedly removing files. At one stage, she fell sick.
Later, Rozina was handed over to Shahbag Police Station around 8:30 pm. Then, she was shown arrested in a case filed under Official Secrets Act in the midnight.
The following day, she was produced before a Dhaka court and sought a five-day remand for her. But the court rejected the remand plea and sent her to jail.
At the same time, the court set May 20 for further hearing on the bail petition. On May 20, the bail hearing in the case concluded and the court fixed today (May 23) for passing an order on her bail.
