Khadem’s murder in Rangpur: Convicted JMB man arrested

Anti-terrorism unit (ATU) of police arrested death row convict Abdur Rahman alias Chandu Mia who was the prime accused in a case filed for killing the caretaker (Khadem) of a mazar in Rangpur in 2015.

Police arrested Chandu Mia, also a member of banned militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) nearly three years after a Rangpur court sentenced him to death for killing the caretaker.

Chandu Mia had been hiding in different areas since the murder, Aslam Khan, ATU’s superintendent of police, told reporters on Tuesday (May 25).

A team of ATU arrested him from Savar area yesterday evening, he said during a briefing at ATU headquarters in the capital’s Baridhara.

During primary interrogation, the convict admitted his involvement in the killing, the SP said.

A group of outlawed JMB assailants slaughtered Khadem Rahamat Ali of village Tepamadhupur under Kawnia upazila near his house at night on November 10, 2015.

On March 18 in 2018, a court in Rangpur sentenced seven members of JMB including Chandu to death for killing him.
