Emergency measures being taken to prevent black fungus: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said that along with the Indian variant of the coronavirus, black fungus has also been reported to have found in the country. In addition to resisting the Indian variant, we now have to fight against the black fungus as well. But there is no reason to be worried at this moment. Because the virus has not yet spread across the country.

He was addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the vaccination programme for medical students at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday (May 25).

The Minister said, “As a precautionary measure, various pharmaceutical companies in the country have been asked to develop anti-black fungus drugs. At the same time, the concerned department has been instructed on what should be done for the proper treatment of this disease.”

Highlighting the importance of vaccinating medical students, Zahid Maleque said, “Students who are studying in the 5th year are being vaccinated in the first instance. Because, these medical students are working with Covid patients and will continue to do so. Initiatives have been taken to vaccinate students on a priority basis considering their health risks. Students of DMC as well as other government medical colleges of the country will also be vaccinated in phases.”

He said talks with China and Russia on vaccine imports had reached a final stage. Negotiations with the United States and the United Kingdom have moved forward as well. Hopefully, there will be no problem in getting vaccine in the country in future.
