‘Bangladesh escapes massive damage as Yaas hits Odisha’

State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management Md. Enamur Rahman said that Bangladesh has escaped from massive danger as cyclone ‘Yaas’ hit Odisha of India.

He further said, “In the current situation, there is no fear of cyclone Yaas hitting Bangladesh.”

The state minister was addressing a press briefing on the “overall cyclone situation”at the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry’s conference room on Wednesday (May 25).

Dr. Enamur Rahman said, “Yaas is affecting the coast of the country. As a result of this storm, many dams have already broken in the south and south-west of the country. Dams will be rebuilt in the areas where tidal water washed away.”

He said, “We have been working tirelessly for the last few days as precautionary measures taken by the government to face the cyclone Yaas. Cyclone control rooms have been set up in coastal districts and upazilas. The NDRCC of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been working around the clock to collect and exchange information over the cyclone.”

Meanwhile, 16,500 packets of dry and other food items have been allotted in favor of the concerned deputy commissioners (DCs) to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims in 27 upazilas of nine coastal districts due to increasing tidal waters due to the cyclone Yaas.
