Ex-SP Babul Akter transferred to Feni jail

Former superintendent of police (SP) Babul Akter, who is arrested in a case filed over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, has been sent to Feni district jail from Chattogram central jail.

Tariqul Islam, jailer at the Chattogram central jail, has confirmed the handover on Saturday (May 29).

Jailer Tariqul Islam said following an order from the higher authority Babul Akter was handed over to Feni jail.

On May 17, Babul was produced before the court for giving a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after a five-day remand. Since then, he was staying in Chattogram jail.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on May 12 detained Babul Akter following an investigation that found he was involved in his wife’s murder.

In the case statement, his father-in-law Mosharraf claimed that Babul had his wife killed over extra marital relationship.

On June 5, 2016, unidentified assailants gunned down Babul’s wife Mitu at the port city’s GEC intersection while she was going to drop her son Mahir Akhter, 7, for his school bus.
