Fearing untoward incident, the administration of Companiganj upazila has imposed Section 144 in Basurhat municipality for 12 hours, banning meetings and public gatherings.

Section 144 will remain in force from 12:00pm to 12:00am on Thursday (June 24).

The section was slapped as two feuding groups of the ruling Awami League declared programmes simultaneously at Rupali Chattar in the municipality, appearing on a Facebook live on Wednesday night.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Companiganj Ziaul Haque Mir confirmed the news.
