The Foreign Ministry summoned the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller and has taken explanation over the human rights sanctions against RAB and seven of its officials.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said this at a program of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Association at Foreign Service Academy on Saturday noon.
“The US sanctions are sad. Bangladesh has become free from militancy and terrorism because of RAB”, the minister said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday summoned the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller seeking explanation over the human rights sanctions against RAB and seven of its officials.
Earlier on Friday, the United States imposed extensive human rights-related sanctions on dozens of people and entities tied to Bangladesh, China, Myanmar and North Korea and added Chinese artificial intelligence company SenseTime Group to an investment blacklist.
Benazir, former director general of Rab, and five officials were designated by the Department of the Treasury under the Global Magnitsky sanctions programme in connection with serious rights abuse.
Besides, the US State Department barred Benazir, and another former official of Rab Lt Col Miftah Uddin Ahmed, from traveling to the United States.Share this post:
