Board of Directors of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), a listed company in various sectors of the capital market, have decided to abandon the Bangladeshi ship named ‘MV Banglar Samriddhi’ which was damaged in a missile attack during the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
A source at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) came up with the development on Sunday (March 6).
MV Banglar Samriddhi, owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, arrived at port Olvia in Ukraine on February 24 and all port activities came to a stop as Russia invaded Ukraine on the day. During the attack, a total of 29 Bangladeshi sailors got stranded in the ship and the attack left the ship damaged, according to the source.
MV Banglar Samriddhi came under attack at about 9:25pm (Bangladesh time) on Wednesday (March 2) and the ship caught fire. The crew members managed to douse the fire, originated from the attack, immediately. Hadisur Rahman, a third engineer of the ship, was killed in the attack.
