Bangladesh receives $143 crore remittance in March

Despite a slowdown remittance inflow in the previous month, Bangladesh received 142.93 crore US dollars remittance in the current month till March 24, according to sources of Bangladesh Bank (BB).

If this trend of remittance continues, there is a possibility of setting a new record by the end of March, the bankers believe.

It was learned after talking to bankers that remittance inflows increased more than that of other times during the two Eids (Muslim festivals) throughout the year. As part of this, the demand for cash is increasing in the country ahead of the month of Ramadan. Expatriates are sending remittance to their relatives just to provide cash.

They also said that earlier the incentive on remittance sent legally by expatriates was 2 percent. At the beginning of this year, the incentive has been increased from 2 percent to 2.5 percent. As a result, expatriates are getting encourage to send money legally.

In the first eight months of 2021-22 fiscal year, remittance inflow was $187.14 crore in July, $181 crore in August, $172.67 crore in September, $164.68 crore in October, $155. 37 crore in November, $162.90 crore in December, $170.44 lakh in January and 149.60 crore in February.

The Remittance inflow has decreased in 6 months out of 8 months (July to February) of the financial year, it has increased in two months. However, remittances are likely to increase this month.
