Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General (DG) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has become the new IGP of Bangladesh Police. He has been assigned as the 31st Inspector General (IG) of Bangladesh Police. This information was informed in a notification of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday afternoon. Earlier in the morning, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification regarding the retirement of the current IGP Benazir Ahmed. Benazir Ahmed will be on post-retirement leave from September 1 as he will turn 59 on September 30. BCS 8th batch officer Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was born on January 12, 1964 in Srihail village of Shalla upazila of Sunamganj. Graduated from Chittagong University with BA (Honours) in Sociology. Joined as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1982 as a 1986 batch officer of BCS (Police) cadre.He was promoted to the post of Additional IGP in May 2021. Earlier he was the DIG of Dhaka range. During his career, Abdullah Al-Mamun served in charge of Police Headquarters, Metropolitan Police, Armed Police Battalions and various special units in different districts. In every field of working life, he has kept the signature of honesty, sincerity and professionalism.Achieved the genuine respect and love of all.Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun is one of the popular police officers due to his colloquial and humorous features. On condition of anonymity, two officials of DIG and SP status told The Daily Economist, “We are very happy to have an unassuming person like Chowdhuri Abdullah Al-Mamun sir as IG.”
