MA Khalek and Nazrul Islam, two former chairmen of PrimeAsia University, which has been plagued by endless irregularities, corruption and looting, have been in jail since last September 12 in the case of smuggling and embezzlement of thousands crore of tk. Meanwhile, Nazrul has been remanded twice. And Khalek and his son were interrogated at the jail gate. Khaleek-Khaled and Nazrul Gang, former board members of PrimeAsia University and Fareast Islami Life, have looted thousands crores of tk and built a huge empire in America and Canada. About two dozen cases including two ACC cases are pending against them. Also, 5-6 months ago, when a woman employee of the university complained of rape, the unregistered Board of Trustees Chairman Md. Nazrul Islam and Vice Chairman Raihan Azad Titu were arrested and taken to the Mintu Road head office by the Metropolitan DB Police. However, for unknown reasons, they were released within a few hours. In such a situation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has sent a proposal to the Ministry for the reorganization of the Board of Trustees of PrimeAsia University on October 2. According to the Ministry and UGC sources, the name of a person named Waheed Murad Jamil came up in that proposal. In the name of which two Arms Act cases are going on in Boalia police station of Rajshahi metropoliton. Two cases numbered 9 and 10 recorded last August 7. Sections 307/506/34) and 1978-20/A/186/307) respectively. In the investigation, it is known that on August 7, Jamil went to the house of Atiqur Rahman Kalu, a businessman of the city, while he was drunk.The sound of gun firing by Jamil spreaded panic among the nearby residents. When the police from nearby station moved forward, batons were fired to them. On the same day, businessman Atiqur Rahman Kalu and the police filed separate lawsuits as defendants. In this incident, Jamil was released on bail after spending 3 days in remand and 16 days in jail at Boalia police station.
When contacted for his statement on the matter, Waheed Murad Jamil told The Daily Economist, “accidentaly, it’s all ready done.” I have spoken with the Commissioner of Police.’ He said, ‘I did not sit down to give you an interview’ to the question whether there was any previous enmity or rivalry with businessman Atiqur Rahman Kalu. In this regard, Boalia police station OC Mazharul Islam said, “We are preparing to issue the charge sheet. CID’s ballistic test report has already arrived.He also said, “Wahed Murad Jamil Linkcon did not open his mouth during the 3-day remand after the arrest. I am looking into it. As far as I know he is a top terrorist from Mirpur area. Since the ballistics report of the CID has come in hand, now he will be remanded again. Whoever he is, he must be punished in this incident.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique told Daily Economist about this, “Wahed Murad Jamil was under the influence of drugs.” He also said, “He illegally operated the gun with his valid license.” The investigation revealed that there is a dispute between the brothers and sisters and the family over the land. If such a controversial and drug-addicted person is included in the reorganization of the Board of Trustees of PrimeAsia University, the image of the government will be severely questioned. In this regard, University Grants Commission (UGC) member Professor Dr. Vishwajit Chand told Daily Economist, “I was not involved in the PrimeAsia investigation.” The person who did the investigation is very reliable in this work. Even after this, if something like this happens, we will re-investigate and take action if necessary. He also said, ‘Many people often lobby about PrimeAsia. But we don’t care about these things. Whatever happens must be in accordance with the law and rules.According to sources, this Waheed Murad Jamil is the son of late MA Wahab, the closest founder member of MA Khalek, who lost the chairmanship due to embezzlement and destroyed the university. The former vice chairman of the university and chief assistant of the controversial Khaleek-Najrul, director of Fareast Islami Life Insurance and owner of Getco Group, engineer K.M. Khaled is still out of touch for mysterious reasons. It is said that this cunning KM Khaled was the one behind everything. KM Khaled also has several cases of fraud and embezzlement. Many people think that this Jamil-Khaled will pull Khalek again if they get the remotest opportunity in the future. Therefore, those concerned say that his inclusion in the restructuring of the university’s board of trustees is like putting old wine in new bottles.

Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries of the university and followers of Waheed Murad Jamil are lobbying strongly for the quick completion of the Board of Trustees restructuring process in the light of the proposal sent by the University Grants Commission. A top local group of companies known to be very close to the government has joined them.Apart from this, the group of Md Nazrul Islam, who is in jail for embezzlement and currently unregistered chairman of the Board of Trustees, is trying hard to retain control of PrimeAsia University.Commodore (retd) Zobair Ahmed, chief advisor of the unregistered board of trustees and member of the academic council of the university, is lobbying in the identity of a top official of the Prime Minister’s office, but he has denied it as a job and the work of fools.
Commodore (retd) Zobair Ahmed told Daily Economist over the phone, “I do everything in my capacity.” I am not the person to break someone’s name. I always protest because I cannot tolerate any injustice. They are currently in jail. Therefore, he claimed that the reform and reorganization of the Board of Trustees is necessary for the sake of the students, officers and employees of the university.
In that application, he demanded that Sheikh Kabir Hossain, the president of the private university association and a close relative of the Prime Minister, be made the chairman of the board of trustees of the university and also mentioned that, if Sheikh Kabir Hossain becomes the president of the board of trustees, everyone will be benefited. It is well known that Sheikh Kabir Hossain’s continuous efforts to ensure the quality and welfare of private universities in the expansion of higher education in the country.
Therefore, he is the most qualified person to resolve the crisis of PrimeAsia University and build a beautiful future for thousands of students. Notably, the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) in April 2021 commissioned Siraj Khan Basak & Company to conduct an audit on Fareast Life. The audit firm submitted its report to IDRA last May. According to the audit report, Khaleek-Khaled and Nazrul Gang, former directors of Fareast Life embezzled Tk 1,332 crore by keeping MTDR mortgages.
The report also said that 164 crores in the name of Prime Asia University, 160 crores in the name of PFI Properties, 151 crores in the name of Fareast Properties, 92 crores in the name of Prime Asia Foundation, 64 crores in the name of Mithila Properties, 55 crores in the name of PFI Securities, in the name of Mithila Textile 48 crores, in the name of KM Khaled 21 crores, in the name of Mollah Enterprises 20 crores, in the name of Azad Automobiles 9 crores and 5 crores in the name of Kamal Uddin.However, it is said that Mithila Textile and Mithila Properties are not directly involved in this incident.
