
Police on Tuesday (November 10) arrested Director of Mind Aid hospital Neaz Morshed in a case filed over the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon at the hospital in the capital on Monday after he was allegedly assaulted by hospital staff.
“Neaz Morshed was arrested from the neuroscience hospital area of the capital this evening,” said Mir Shahiduzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Adabar Police Station.
“11 out of the 15 accused named in the case filed over the death of ASP Anisul have been arrested. A press briefing in this regard will be held on Wednesday (November 11),” the OC added.
Earlier, ten staff members of Mind Aid Hospital were arrested in the same case.
Afterwards, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam granted a seven-day remand for each of the ten people after police produced them before the court with 10-day remand prayer in the case.
The remanded persons are Mind Aid’s marketing manager Arif Mahmud Joy, 35, coordinator Redwan Sabbir, 23, kitchen chef Md Masud, 37, pharmacist Tanvir Hasan, 18, ward boy Zobayer Hossain, 19, Tanif Molla, 20, Sanjeeb Chowdhury, 20, Ashim Chandra Pal, 24, Liton Ahmmad, 18, and Saiful Islam Palash, 35.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Anisul’s father freedom fighter Md Faijuddin Ahmed filed a murder case with Adabar Police Station.
Anisul Karim had been suffering from mental complications over some family issues, said his brother Rezaul Karim.
Anisul’s sister took him to the private hospital ‘Mind Aid’ on Monday (November 9) morning, but died before the admission procedure ended.
High-ups of the police administration, however, called it a planned murder.
Family members of the deceased officer alleged that hospital staffers beat him to death.
CCTV footage showed that some hospital staff members physically assaulted Anisul after taking him inside a room.
Anisul Karim Shipon from Gazipur was working as the assistant commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police’s traffic department. He returned home in Gazipur from Barishal on Monday. Anisul got appointed as police officer through the 31st BCS exams.
