Stocks rebound on both bourses

After witnessing a downward trend in the last two consecutive sessions, Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges rebounded on Monday as the investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 97.45 points or 1.79 per cent to settle at 5,545.09. Two other indices also edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 46.15 points to finish at 2,146.14 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 21.60 points to close at 1,260.22.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 10,822.73 million, which was 8,016.61 million at the previous day’s of the week.

Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 351 issues traded, 34 ended higher, 24 closed lower and 66 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco continued to dominate the turnover, followed by BATBC, Lanka Bangla Finance, Beximco Pharma and Robi.

Bay Leasing was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while Golden Son was the worst loser, losing five percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)-gaining 287.02 points to close at 1,607.35 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 175.55 points to close at 9,699.49.

Of the issues traded, 146 advanced, 44 declined and 38 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 1.19 crore shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 39.91 crore.
