Stock markets on Tuesday extended loss as most of the major sectors closed lower.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 67.49 points or 1.25 per cent to settle at 5,317.72. Two other indices also edged lower. The DSE 30 Index comprising blue chips fell 39.84 points to finish at 2,017.53 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 15.32 point to close at 1,206.72.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, fell to Taka 5,918.11 million on the country’s premier bourse, which was Taka 4,670.89 million at the previous session.
Losers took a strong lead over the gainers, as out of 341 issues traded, 66 declined, 158 advanced and 117 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Beximco topped the turnover chart followed by BATBC, BXPHARMA, LANKABAFIN and Robi.
GBBPOWER was the day’s best performer while NCCBLMF1 was the worst loser.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -losing by 181.42 points to settle at 15,383.58 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 110.15 points to close at 9,278.93.
Of the issues traded, 99 declined, 45 advanced and 51 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city’s bourse traded 58.40 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 26.49 crore.
