Import of onion from India has resumed through Hili Land Port after remaining suspended for one month.
Indian trucks loaded with onions started entering Bangladesh through Hili check-post on Thursday afternoon, Kamal, representative of Hili Landport Export Import Group, said.
Kamal said onion imports resumed in January this year after the Indian government lifted the ban on onion exports.
He said, “We had to count huge losses by importing onions in the busy season of the country and all traders stopped importing onions from January 27”.
“Due to the decline in the supply of domestic onions in the country’s market, we have imported onions again after a long month”, he added.
