The Commerce Ministry is not interested to increase edible oil price ahead of the month of Ramadan. An inter-ministerial meeting will take a decision in this regard today (March 2).
On February 6, the government increased price of bottled soybean oil Tk 8.00 per liter in line with the rising prices of soybean and palm oil in the international market.
On February 27, the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (BVORVMA) again demanded of hiking Tk 12 per liter for edible oil.
The organization made the demand in a fresh letter to the Commerce Ministry and requested to implement the new price from March 1. As per the new price (subject to be implemented), a liter of bottled soybean oil will cost Tk 180.
According to sources, the Commerce Minister decided not to raise prices right now.
