Internet Service Providers of the country decided to shutdown of internet and connection of cable television for three hours every day from Sunday (October 18).
The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) took the decision protesting Dhaka Corporation’s recent move to remove overhead cables.
Following the issue, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting with the leaders of ISPAB and COAB this evening.
The symbolic shutdown will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm daily, ISPAB said.
On the other hand, the concerned authority said, most of the people are depended on internet to run virtual classes, official activities, shopping during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. So, the internet users will face a crisis if the problem is not solved within tomorrow.
Ahmed Junayed, vice-president of ISPAB said, “We will join a meeting today. Later, the final decision will be taken.”
